Calligraphy Classes in Wells, Somerset

I recently scoped out a beautiful location which is just perfect for bringing back calligraphy classes - the Heritage Courtyard Studios in Wells, Somerset, just a stone's throw away from the Cathedral and close to Bristol and Bath.
There are two dates in the diary so far for calligraphy classes: Saturday 26th February and Saturday 26th March 2022.
The February class will be for beginners who have never picked up a dip pen before - you don’t need to have neat handwriting either. You’ll go from complete beginner to being able to join words in just two and a half hours.
The March class is the perfect follow-on from the beginner class as we delve into making letters bounce beautifully giving your calligraphy that modern look.
WHY LEARN CALLIGRAPHY AT A CLASS
One of the plus points about going to a class is that by learning from someone who's been doing calligraphy for a while (5 years and counting) is that you'll get to where you want to without all the speed bumps getting in the way - that can ultimately dull your motivation and lead to you give up before you've even begun.
When problems do arise then I'm there to show you how to fix them there and then with all the tips and zero googling in sight. More time enjoying and less time stressing because calligraphy and stress do not go together well!
There's a lot to be said for starting on the right foot.
ABOUT THE BEGINNER’S CALLIGRAPHY CLASS
DAY: Saturday 26th February, 2022
TIME: 10am - 12:30pm
WHERE: Heritage Courtyard Studios, Sadler Street, WELLS
At this relaxing calligraphy class you’ll learn about the key materials and skills needed to create beautiful hand lettering. After learning how the pointed pen works, you’ll practice making the fundamental strokes and then use them to form letters and words in a modern calligraphy style.
You’ll also make some gift tags to take home featuring your beautiful calligraphy.
This workshops’s ideal if you want to create your own cards, wedding stationery or hand-lettered home décor, or are looking for a creative and relaxing hobby. Suitable for right and left-handed writers.
All materials and tea & coffee is included.
WHAT WE'LL COVER
• Learn about the essential (and tried and tested) tools you need to get going and how to use them effectively
• Find out why modern calligraphy is more about drawing than writing (and you don’t need good handwriting either!)
• Make the basic strokes and use them to build a beautiful alphabet
• Know how to start lettering words for your own projects
You’ll get all materials provided along with your own workbook which will also be emailed to you after. There’ll be plenty of demonstrations and one-to-one tuition so you can really gets to grips with using pen and ink and ask all your questions.
And if you’d like to purchase your own calligraphy materials to take home then I’ll be bringing my pop-up shop.
ABOUT THE BOUNCE LETTERING CLASS
DAY: Saturday 26th March, 2022
TIME: 10am - 12:30pm
WHERE: Heritage Courtyard Studios, Sadler Street, WELLS
Make your letters bounce beautifully with a pointed dip pen and ink to give your calligraphy that modern look. You’ll first practice bouncing individual letters, then combine them to write words so they bounce and fit effortlessly together. You’ll learn my tried and tested techniques so that you can letter your own quotes or artwork to proudly display at home.
This calligraphy class is ideal if you’ve already taken an introductory class and want to take your lettering a step further. It’s assumed that you’re happy writing the alphabet and joined words - although it doesn’t have to be perfect! Suitable for right and left-handed writers.
All materials and tea & coffee are included.
WHAT WE'LL COVER
• Learn how to make your letters bounce beautifully - giving your calligraphy a modern look
• Experiment with several techniques and find one that works for you
• Make your words to fit magically together and create an overall cohesive look
• Create your own calligraphy quote or artwork
